It began in 2019, with a single beehive and lots of curiosity. Our family, including our two young children, dove into the hobby and quickly became fascinated with the world of honeybees.
Five years later we maintain 10+ hives, not only in Ayer, but also in Shirley, Grafton and on a farm in New Hampshire. Our yard is bee friendly and our neighbors, including the Ayer Community Garden, support us with beneficial plantings and pesticide-free yards for the honeybees. The worker bees forage on apple and peach trees, bee balm and other pollinator plants.
Our apiary and homestead was named for the historic town Grist Mill, thought to have been located on our property well over two hundred years ago.
Our mission at Olde Grist Homestead is to provide our local community with fresh honey, produce, eggs, baked goods and other handmade gift items. We strive for sustainable agriculture and hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor.
At Olde Grist Homestead, we offer a wide range of made-from-scratch baked goods, freshly grown fruits and vegetables, local wildflower honey and other fun, delicious and hand-crafted items. We are fully permitted, inspected and cottage kitchen licensed.
Let us know what you'd like to see at our local stand! Send us questions or requests. We are always on the lookout for new ideas.
